Farillo of Calahonda Verified listing

The current small leaning tower locally known as El Farillo was constructed by the builder Juan Alonso. In 1762, El Farillo was guarded by a Corporal, three lighthouse keepers and three infantry soldiers; it could also have 8 pounds cannons.  Due to the importance of the port which was defended by this building, an artillery battery had to be built. The main aim of this tower was to defend the coast from pirates and Berbers.  Although the exact date of its construction is not known, it is thought to be built around the 16th century. It was occupied from 1839 by carabineers, and its structure was modified by providing it with a lighthouse to guide ships which travelled towards the Port in Calahonda.
